Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how Maggie Pet Health Care ("Maggie", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Maggie app and related services. We take your privacy seriously. Your pet's health records are yours, and we are committed to keeping them that way.
What information we collect
Information you enter
The primary data in Maggie is what you choose to record: your pets' names, breeds, birthdays, weights, body condition scores, vaccination records, vet visit notes, medications, health concerns, and any other events you log. This data lives on your device and, if you have a Maggie account, syncs to our secure cloud storage.
Account information
If you create an account (required for cloud sync and household sharing), we collect your email address and a hashed password. We do not store your password in plain text.
Photos and attachments
If you attach photos to events (for example, vaccination certificates or vet letters), those files are uploaded to our secure cloud storage and associated with your account. You can delete them at any time.
Usage and diagnostic data
We collect anonymised usage analytics (via Firebase Analytics) and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics) to help us understand how the app is used and to fix problems. This data does not identify you personally. You can opt out of analytics in the app settings on supported platforms.
How we use your information
- To provide the core app features: health tracking, reminders, and household sync.
- To operate and improve the app, diagnose crashes, and fix bugs.
- To send you important account communications (for example, security notices).
- To respond to your support requests.
We do not use your pet's health data for advertising or sell it to any third party.
How your data is stored and protected
Pet records are stored locally on your device using an encrypted local database. When you have an account, records sync to our cloud backend over an encrypted connection (TLS). Cloud data is stored in a managed Postgres database hosted in the European Union. Only you and the household members you explicitly invite can access your household's data.
We apply industry-standard security practices: encrypted storage, access control, and audit logging. No security system is perfect, but we take these obligations seriously.
Sharing with third parties
We do not sell your data. We share data with third parties only in the following cases:
- Service providers: We use a small number of trusted providers to operate the service, including cloud infrastructure (Cloudflare, Neon), analytics (Firebase), and payment processing (handled by Apple App Store and Google Play on our behalf). These providers process data only as needed to provide their services and are bound by data processing agreements.
- Leo AI assistant: If you use Leo, your messages are sent to our Leo AI service for processing. Leo does not store long-term conversation history. Your pet roster context may be shared with Leo within a session to give relevant answers. Leo is not a third-party advertising service.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required to do so by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we begin an erasure process within 30 days. Backups may retain data for a short additional period before full deletion.
You can delete individual pet records, events, and photos at any time from within the app. To delete your account and all associated data, go to More > Account > Delete account, or contact us at privacy@maggiepethealth.app.
Children
Maggie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data.
GDPR (European Economic Area and UK): If you are in the EEA or UK, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to access your data, object to processing, request restriction, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
India DPDP: If you are in India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, including the right to access a summary of your personal data and to have inaccurate data corrected or erased.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@maggiepethealth.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Maggie after changes are published means you accept the updated policy.
